Back yard, looking north
My favorite feature in the back yard was the pecan tree. It lost a huge limb during a summer thunderstorm that first year. The following year another storm took another limb. Then the next early spring, I removed two of the largest limbs that had shaded my new kitchen garden.
I made pecan cookies that first Christmas in my house. The storm damage and lost limbs after that season somehow kept the tree from producing anything to harvest. That pecan tree was special. A sudden thunderstorm in May 2011 took down my pecan tree. I was home when it happened.
This photograph was taken in February 2007 on the first day that I visited my house. When the May 2011 thunderstorm knocked the pecan tree down onto the shed farthest from the house. The following spring, I knocked down the other one.
