Although this project is somewhere between “Before Renovation” and “After Renovation,” this photograph gives a good idea of how everything is progressing. It helps to show how the box beam ceiling functions to join the living room and the dining room since it appears that the beams connect the spaces.
There is still a considerable amount of detailed work remaining. The gray plasterboard needs to be covered over, and the nail holes and small gaps in the box beams need to be filled with quality wood filler that bonds to the wood to avoid any cracking. Yikes! More ladder climbing!
One final piece of moulding may be used where the plasterboard and box beams meet. This detail could help to keep the edges sharp and simplify painting the ceiling portion a different color from the box beams. I believe that this difference should open up the ceiling space even more.
