“Gosh, Mom. All of the other guys are learning to knit.”
by projectbuddy
This winter I took a “Learn To Knit” class at a local yarn shop. It was something’s to do during the cold winter months. Knitting has always been a mystery to me. Sure it’s fun and easy to unravel, but how do you get it “raveled” in the first place?
This was my first real completed project after quite a few trials, failures, and goofs. It’s just a simple cotton dishcloth that I gave to my mother with this vase of flowers for Mother’s Day. After all, I guy is supposed to give his first project to his mom, right?
This photograph was taken May 2015.
It looks beautiful. Great job!
Thanks for the encouragement and compliment! I enjoyed reading through your knitting posts on WordPress. I like your outlook and writing style!
I’ll bet your mother loved it.
Thanks! And yes, she did, and I think more than just that’s because it’s what mothers are supposed to do. Last year when I helped her move to her retirement home, she gave me all of the Cub Scout projects that I had done so many years ago and that she had saved for all of those years!
Just like you, I have never really understood the ‘how-to’ of knitting, nor have I ever had the patience! Your first project is fabulous! I hope you keep it up!
Thanks for the encouragement! When I saw your “like,” I immediately thought of some of the vintage clothing posts that you have written or images that you have used. Lately I’ve seen quite a few books with knitting patterns that have been adapted from vintage clothing! Maybe you might think of taking up knitting yourself?!? Thanks again!
You did an amazing job of keeping the edges straight – when I tried to learn to knit the scarf was shaped like an hourglass!
